Birthday Celebrations

On Friday 13th, A.J celebrated his 6th birthday. At morning tea, his mum brought in an amazing chocolate cake and a few of his mates from kohanga.

Spelling Champions

Every week, the students practice the spelling in class and for homework.  On Fridays, Whaea Peace tests each student on their spelling. Here are some of our spelling results.

We have been very busy learning about our class routines and how to make friends with each other.

We are excited about our new spelling program called word  works. Our goal is to get our pet monkey to climb the spelling ladder by learning to say, read and write our words correctly. 

We go swimming three times a week and we are learning to float using kick boards and noodles. We love to be able to float like swaying jellyfish in the water.

Learning how to use Explain Everything on our iPads

Today we have started learning how to use Explain Everything on our iPads.

We learned how to find the EE app,  choose New Project and then Blank Canvas.

We learned how to use some of the tools in the tool bar.

The tools we used were the Draw Tool and we also changed the pen colours. We learned we can use the Undo button if we make a mistake or we change our mind. 

We practiced writing our names and tried drawing a picture of ourselves.

Room 2 Assembly - The Three Little Pigs

 Room Two had assembly on Friday 31st July.

We did a play called 'The Three Little Pigs.' 

Our actors were Shaun (the BIG BAD wolf),

Frank, Hunter and Axle-Jay (house of straw) 

Jonathan and, Preston (house of sticks), 

Tatum and Abigail (house of bricks), 

Choyzen was our narrator. played in front of an appreciated audience, our tamariki were enthusiastic and the BIG BAD wolf played well into his character. Well done Shaun. Our reader Choyzen never missed a beat. Well done.

Bee Bots

Miss Simeon bought Bee Bots for the school, so we decided to have these Bee Bots in our class. Today we learnt to code, using direction cards and instructions.

Hungry Caterpillar Story.

Today we read the story about the very hungry caterpillar.

The Hungry Caterpillar Puppet Show by Room 2

In week 8, room 2 worked hard to perform a puppet show based on our shared reading book, The Hungry Caterpillar.
Room 2 students worked hard to make the stage and puppets and learn how to read the story clearly so that the puppeteers knew when to hold the correct puppet up.

Animating with Explain Everything on the iPads

Lately we have been learning about the Kawa of Care using iPads. We know that we need to hold the iPad with 2 hands. When we carry the device we do the hug and hold (bear hug).

Today we learned about using Explain Everything on the iPads. We made an animation of Axle. Axle is new to our class today. We really enjoyed the animation making, and realised that when we are recording our voice we need to make sure things are quiet in the background.

Last week started our Social Studies unit on Celebrating Children's Day around the world and our first country was Japan. We made Koinobri (Flying Carp Fish kites). For our presentation at our 'taumata' week, we presented the legend of how the Koi (Carp fish) was transformed into a Koinobori (Flying Carp Fish kites)

Below is a simple process of how we made our Koinobori: Using the medium of 'crayon & dye'.

1. Colouring the edges of the fishes scales with white crayon.
2. Colouring the rest of the fish with other coloured crayons.
3. Used rollers to apply the dye.
4. Let the dye dry
5. Folded in the dried coloured fish and glued coloured crepe paper to make the tails.
6. Assembled the Koi poles with five Koi in order of;
1. Family Banner colours
2. Father
3. Mother
4. Son
5. Daughter

This week we are in India celebrating Diwali, (the Festival of Light) this is all so exciting to show and do for our class.

Room 6 here. Last week we looked at celebrations around the world as part of our Social Studies Unit.
The country we studied last week was Japan and the celebrations of Children's Day and the part we did was making Koinobori (Carp fish kites). Below are photos of the process we did:

Term 2 week 2 2019

Last Friday 17th May, our class Room 6 - Year 0-1 presented to the school our Koinobori (Japanese Carp fish) art as part of World Celebrations and last week we did choose Japan.

We coloured a template of a Koinobori; first with white around the scales and then the rest of the fish. The next step we dyed our coloured Koi and when it dried, we attached them to poles in the order of:

• Family Banner
• Father
• Mother
• Boy
• Girl

Welcome to Term 2, and our first day we welcomed 6 new students and whaea Rachel Kopa as our teacher aide for student Kaira.

and so our class has a sudden increase of eager minds and bodies ready to learn. So this group are called our Transition Group and are route trained on our class practises and discipline.

• Studying a snippet of Japanese culture through:

Our class is managed by whaea Shiralee, assisted by Matua Hemara and Mrs Simeon.

Hi everyone.

We at Room 6 have started a Blog page for all our classroom. Our teachers are whaea Shiralee, Mrs Simeon and matua Hemara.

So far this year we have been busy learning new and exciting things like: going to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds on Tuesday the 5th of February and there we saw:

• the waka, Ngatokimatawhaorua
• The Three flags
• The Policemen having a photo with our school and class.

Kia ora everyone, Room 6 is learning how to create an animation movie using "Stop Motion Animator' and our 'We Video' App. Have a look on Kohuru, Anthony, Jordan and Konrad's blog to see the first results.

Well I've decided to go on my big O.E, I have given the student's of Room 6 the list of cities that I will be visiting and I've asked them to find me three places for me to visit. Click on Room 6 student blogs to see what I might be visiting.

Students are discussing the importance of a positive digital footprint. They are updating their personal profiles on their blogs keeping in mind their personal footprint.
