Auckland Super Trip.

Well tomorrow Tautoro's Year 7 and 8 students are off to Auckland. I have designed a page so that we can write reflections of the trip and download photos of us participating in each activity I have booked you in. The first activity we will experience is skiing at Snow Planet. Then we will be heading off to The Sky Tower to experience the heady heights of the viewing platform. Hopefully all goes well and that our whanau can view from home on what their child is experiencing. See you all at school, tomorrow, hopefully you have packed everything you need.

Successful Gala 2013

Well Term 3 finished with a Twilight Gala.

Each student of Room 6 ran a stall, some were successful and a few were not.

Students and teachers are learning how to navigate their Blogger page called Awa e rua Tautoro School.

Room 6 Students Are Now Beginning To Blog.

This Thursday, Room 6 will start to write Reflections about what they are learning in class. Yee Ha! We have started.

Term 3 Time Table of Learning Events.

Term 3 is a very bust term for Room 6, as we have a few activities that we must achieve, attempt or commit too. This term our timetable is full as we have....

1. Cross Country training.
2. Tautoro Cross Country Day and Whanau Day.
3. Year 5 and 6 Rugby League Tournament held at Kaikohe Lindvart Park.
4. Ohaeawai Cross Counrty Day (Region Race Day)
5. Whole school Marae Noho.
6. Cultural Festival Dress Rehearsal and Performance Day.
7. Tautoro School Twilight Gala.

In between all of that, Room 6, Year 7 and 8 are fundraising so that they can head off to experience city life in Auckland CBD for a whole week.

Matariki: Te Haerenga Tatou ki a Taipa.

During Matariki Week (10th - 14th June) Room 6 students wanted to celebrate one of our very world famous kaumatua - Hekenukumai Busby. On the 13th and 14th of June, the whole of Tautoro School went to Taipa. We stayed at TeKauhanga Marae. The high light of our trip, was when we visited Hekenukumai Busby at Aurere.

We were greeted by a very warm and friendly kaumatua, who was happy to see our whole school wanting to learn from him.

For over thirty minutes, Hekenukumai explained to us how our tupuna used traditional navigational methods to sail across the Polynesian triangle (New Zealand-Rapanui-Hawaii) He taught us that our tupuna studied the flight paths of birds, stars, sun position and sea currents. Hekenukumai had also built TeAurere (a sea waka) using traditional methods that our tupuna used.

We also met Haimona Brown, Hekenukumai's moko, he sailed on TeAurere in 2012-2013. His job on TeAurere was Quarter Master. He had to feed the crew and keep a watchful eye on the water and food stores.

After the talk we all went outside and we went to see TeAurere and the star compass that Hekenukmai had built beside his house.

There were two main messages that I received at Aurere.

1. You are never too old to learn. Wow! Hekenukumai is 82 years old if he is still learning and following his dreams, then so can the students of Room 6.
2. Your team, class or whanau must work or live in a place where the wairua is positive. When your wairua is positive then you can face any kind of hardship.

I really enjoyed my trip to Taipa as it was a great way to finish Matariki Week. I also enjoyed meeting the parents who came to help with travelling, cooking or cleaning. Plus I was really proud of the Room 6 students who helped Whaea Hana in the kitchen by making our lunch or cleaning the kitchen. Your helpfulness helped build a positive wairua around a fabulous trip.
