Thank You Ohaeawai School

Once again Ohaeawai School puts on a MASSIVE DAY for the Cross Country Champs. A big Tautoro School cheer goes out to Mrs Lee Whitelaw and all the dedicated staff.

I thoroughly enjoyed the walk around the course and I enjoyed the fact that you only had to walk it once.

Thank you to all of our parent who helped in transporting our tamariki, putting up the big gazebo... and putting it down, looking after everyone and yelling the biggest cheers.

House Teams Compete for the Ultimate Points

RED, YELLOW, GREEN and BLUE, WE ARE MIGHTY! WE ARE TRUE!

Did I grab your attention? Did I make you wonder what has happened at Tautoro School? I hope I did.

Last Friday, we had over 100 kids screaming the house down saying that their house was the best. I don't know why as YELLOW TEAM will always be the BEST! Plus I hear yellow is the symbol for KNOWLEDGE and WINNING. Am I biased - Yeah! I even wore my best yellow sun glasses, I think I even out shone the sun.

Why were these kids screaming? Well Tautoro school held their annual Cross Country Whanau Day on Friday 22nd August. This event was held so that our tamariki could participate in daily physical exercise, beat their personal best time, have fun and of course find out who was going to represent Tautoro School at the Mid North Ohaeawai Cross Country Competition.

After the Opening Ceremony, Team Cheer (Sad to say I thought Red Team was the best), Queen's Batton Relay and Speech we all trundled off down to the Padlie Farm and each student either participated in their age race or Walker's Club. I even hear we had a few parents participating with our walkers.

We had a great day, full of laughter, praise and applause. Well done Tautoro.

Learning Our Moteatea for Cultural Festival.

This term we have asked Whaea Rachel to come into Room 6 and teach us our Moteatea - Ka noho mai Kaharau. We are learning the first 2 verses of Ka noho mai Kaharau.

First we discussed that the moteatea is about Rahiri's son Kaharau, and that Kaharau built a manu-aute (kite) which he called Tuhoronuku. Kaharau built this manu-aute and when he flew it and where the manu-aute landed after the flight, that would be the place where Kaharau would settle and live.

The second verse describes how the manu-aute flew in the sky and how it flew over Oahukena Pa and then finally settling around Puketona just below Pakinga Pa.

Room 6 was divided into a boys group and a girls group. Please listen to both groups and help us to improve by leaving positive comment, that would help us to become confident preformers on stage.

Cross Country 2014

The students of Tautoro School have started practising endurance running over the Padlie Whanau farm.  Room 6 students are either running for 3km or walking for 2km. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves as I don't get too many grumbles. The thing I like is that everyone is participating whether it be running or walking and everyone is trying to improve on their Personal Best (PB)
The actual Tautoro School Cross Country Day is Wednesday 20th August. See you there whanau. Or why not come down with the kids and run/walk with them Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 1.00-1.45pm.
