Farewell to our Year 8 Students.

It has been great teaching our Tautoro School Year 8 students and I wish them well for their next school. All the best guys and remember to follow your dreams and don't let anyone trample your brilliant ideas.

Last Week of 2013

Hi all,

As you are all aware it is the last week of the year. (Yes I know it rhymes as we have been studying Christmas verses and trying to create our own for our Christmas cards, we are making in class.)

We are having technical problems with our internet connection - we have no internet in Room 6. So our study on Cyber Smart, has slightly gone 'West Wards.' But I would like you all to check out this website, as it has really good Cyber Smart games to help you become savvy about - Pop Up, Adverts, Viruses, Cyber Bullying, Hoax Websites and Website Authenticity.

• ‘CyberTour’ game at www.media-awareness.ca
Students to work in pairs to engage with the online
module, ‘CyberTour’ by the Media Awareness
Network, found at
www.media-awareness.ca > Media awareness
network > Educational Games > Jo Cool or Jo Fool
> For Teachers > Cybertour.

It would be great if all the whanau could visit and play these games, as it would help you to become aware of people who deliberately send information through digital media that can harm you and your computer.

We have a past/present game of softball tomorrow at 1.00pm if you can make it, please come down and cheer our student team.

Last week, we had a little speech competition. I have posted a few Year 8 speeches on our writing page, please check them out as they are great. Juliana came 1st in the Year 8 competition and Jessie came 1st in the Year 7 competition. These two will be speaking at formal prize-giving around 1.00pm. I have asked the class to be dressed in 'smart casual' for this day, as every student will be presenting our class item and going up on stage to receive a certificate.

On Wednesday night, our Year 8 students have their graduation dinner. I have asked my Year 8 students to dress up for this night, as it will be one of their lasting memory of being at Tautoro School.

Through out the Christmas and New Year holiday, I will post websites to visit. These websites will help your child to maintain their knowledge through the break. Plus it might help to break the boredom too.

See you all on Wednesday.
